Heqing County is home to over 80 species of wild animals including reptiles, animals and birds. According to Yunnan Provincial List of Animals under National Protection, Heqing County has the following animals under national protection: Class I: leopard (Panthera pardus),wild donkey (mountain donkey), and Black Muntjac (Muntiacus crinifrons). Class II: Assamese macaque (Macaca assamensis),rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta), silver pheasant (Lophura nycthemera), white-bellied woodpecker (Dryocopus javensis), and owl. Class III: black bear (Ursus thibetanus), blue sheep (Pseudois nayaur), musk deer (Noschus noschiferus Linnaeus), pangolin, otter, elk, copper pheasant (Chrysolophus amherstiae), golden pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus), eagle, parrot, and lovebird.
Heqing County also has rich plant resources, with 519 species of trees under 150 genera, 88 families and 48 orders, including 101 rare, old trees under 28 species, 1 subfamily and 26 families. The County also has 218 species of Chinese medicinal plants under 78 families; hundreds of species of bamboo and woody flowering plants; 22 species of wild plants under national- and provincial-level protection, including 13 precious, endangered plant species under national protection and 9 under provincial protection.
