Heqing County is located in the northern part of Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province (100°01′~100°29′ east longitude, and 25°57′~26°42′ north latitude). It neighbours with Yongsheng County in the east (separated by the Jinshajiang River), Binchuan County and Dali City in the south near the Jizushan Mountain, Jianchuan County and Er‘yuan County in the west near the Ma’ershan Mountain, and Yulong County of Lijiang City in the north near the Yulong Snow Mountain. Heqing County is 37 km at its widest and 85 km at its longest, covering a total area of 2,395 km2. The lowest point in the County is Xiaying Village at an altitude of 1,162 m above sea level, and the highest the main peak of the Ma’ershan Mountain at an altitude of 3,958.4 m, with a difference of 2,796 m between the two points.
Heqing County, as an important tourist attraction on the well-known Dali-Lijiang route, is known for its cultural and historical importance, silverware production as well as beautiful river scenery. Yunhe Town, where the county government resides, is only 14 km from Lijiang Airport. It can also be conveniently reached by railway and highway. Heqing County boasts many sites of historical importance and scenic beauty, with green mountains against blue sky, clear rivers and ponds lined by lush trees, and lively wetlands with rich wildlife.
