Heqing County (100°01′~100°29′ east longitude, and 25°57′~26°42′ north latitude) is located in northern part of Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province, at the southern section of the Hengduanshan Mountain, and to east of the Yunlingshan Mountain. It neighbours with Yongsheng County in the east, Binchuan County and Dali City in the south, Jianchuan County and Er’yuan County in the west, and Lijiang City in the north. Covering a total area of 2,395 km2, Heqing County has 7 towns and 2 townships under its jurisdiction, including Xintun Town, Caohai Town, Yunhe Town, Jindun Township, Songgui Town, Xiyi Town, Huangping Town, Liuhe Yi Ethnic Township, and Longkaikou Town, with 114 village committees and 3 community committees. Yunhe Town, where the county government resides, is 476 km from Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province, 136 km from Dali City, where the prefecture government resides, and 39 km from Lijiang City. Heqing County has an average altitude of 2,196 m above sea level. In 2018, it had an average temperature of 14.1 ℃, an annual precipitation of 1,226.8 mm and an annual sunlight duration of 2,425.3 hours. It has a total population of 281,154, including 141,056 men (50.17% of total population) and 140,098 women (49.83%); 192,706 ethnic minority people (68.54%), with 166,694 Bai, 15,600 Yi, 1,493 Miao, 5,519 Lisu, 926 Naxi, and 2,474 others.
Heqing County has a variety of mineral resources such as gold, silver, manganese, coal, aluminum, zinc, iron, copper, bentonite and kaolin. Tourist sites include 4A-rated Xinhua Village Scenic Spot, Yunhe Ancient Town, and Caohai Wetland. Local specialties include Heqing liquor, ham, preserved pork liver, Angelica sinensis, and gold/silver/copper crafts.
